about

I am ecstatic to share with you today *Zarathustra*, an album I sculpted with the help of friends in the desert of 2020. Two of these songs I realized in dreams and recorded in a hurry upon waking (“Mozart” and “Angel”), two occurred to me in day-dreams while I was walking down the street (“Space and Time” and “Suddenly”), one of them emerged from a DMT experience (“Spinning Spirit”), and the others blossomed from meanderings and improvisations on guitar.

My hope is that this album might bring yin together with yang for you, balance the in-breath with the out-breath, the introverted glance with the extraverted. With great pride and self-contempt, I offer you a piece of myself erected by the world soul and its geyser of archetypal meanings, in hopes that it might awaken you to the divine, collective dream and your unique path as a stem from its soil.

Produced by stellar-sweet sound-engineer Michael Corrado (@corradoaudio). Hire him.

Thank you Jake Henry for laying down the swanky trumpet on “Mozart”
Thank you Ben Hoffmann for your mystical contributions on keyboard and for getting nasty on drums (“Light of the Sun”). Catch his synth sound throughout the album.
Thank you Melody Stolpp for your singing on “Going Under” and "Light of the Sun!"
Thank you Caroline Davis for the sharp flute on “Light of the Sun”!
Give it up for the DMT Machine-Elf on bass!

I also want to thank Teddy, Alison, Liam, Sean, Michael Cha-Chang and my parents for listening to the music and throwing punches about it.
You gave the music open ears and a felt sense that I’d lost in the thick of my ego's observations. Couldn’t have done this without you!

ORIGIN STORY
I chose the name “Zarathustra” for this project to keep lit the flame of the wise fool archetype as elucidated with uncanny genius by Freddy Nietzsche. In his novel, “Thus Spoke Zarathustra,” Nietzsche writes the story of Zarathustra, who, after ten years living in solitude, comes down to the marketplace overflowing with wild wisdom, pointing away from “a better world” and toward the visible Self and its emerging qualities.

Hit me up with any ideas.
